Over the past 40 years the idea of esteeming one's self has had a tremendous influence on the Christian church. Years ago the pursuit of self love was generally thought to be sinful. But today many pastors, psychologists and counselors teach that negative self image is the basis of nearly all psychological problems and it even leads to sinful behavior.
The truth is that we have too much self-esteem and not enough God-esteem. We must view ourselves as God does, as sinners, desperately in need of His forgivncess, grace and love. We need to realize that esteem isn't about us--it's about God.
