ATP transports chemical energy within cells for metabolism. One molecule of ATP contains three phosphate groups, and it is produced from inorganic phosphate and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) or adenosine monophosphate (AMP). Red links are used to simulate the high-energy phosphate bonds. This model may be used to illustrate that metabolic processes use ATP as an energy source and convert it back into inorganic phosphate and ADP.
This Molecular Model Kit includes:
- 10 black carbon atoms
- 14 white hydrogen atoms
- 14 red oxygen atoms
- 5 blue nitrogen atoms
- 3 yellow phosphorus atoms
- 3 red links for high energy bonds
- 40 gray links for single bonds
- 14 longer gray links for double bonds
The model atoms are easily assembled to form molecules by sliding the links over the poles of the models using a twisting motion. The links represent bonds between the atoms. Kit recommended for ages 12 and up. Includes student activity with Teacher's Key/ Answer Guide.
